English Colonies in the America (New World)
In 1609, the first English Colony was establish in Virginia and the last colony was establish in Georgia in 1733. The colonies were divided into 3 main region:
- New England
- Middle Colonies
- South Colonies
These colonies were governed in 3 different ways:
- Royal (Crown) Colony: this is ruled under the direct control of the king.
- Proprietary Colony: Governed by an individual who receive legal and exclusive rights from the king and was expected to rule the colony under British rules.
- Charter Colony: Control was given by the king to a group of people who could then choose how to govern their colony.
Although many colonies started as proprietary or charter colonies, by 1752, 8 colonies were royal colonies.
